Monaco midfielder Mitrović scores 20 goals in 185 matches
Montreal's Monaco Football Club has announced the signing of Serbian international midfielder Nikola Mitrović from Italian club AC Milan on a one-year contract.
Mitrović, who turns 26 this month, is expected to bring his experience and skills to the team, which currently sits at the bottom of the French Ligue 1 table.
The move comes as Monaco struggles to find consistency in their performances under new manager Gianluca Vialli, who took over last season after the departure of former manager Didier Deschamps.
Mitrović scored 20 goals in 185 league appearances for AC Milan during the 2021-22 campaign, helping the club finish in 17th place in Serie A.
He joins Monaco's squad after spending time with Turkish side Fenerbahçe, where he made 99 appearances and scored 14 goals in 2022.
"I'm excited to join Monaco and contribute to their success,Ligue 1 Express" Mitrović said in a statement. "I look forward to working with Gianluca Vialli and the rest of the team."
Vialli praised Mitrović's experience and added that he will be a valuable addition to the squad.
"Nikola Mitrović is a proven striker with a strong work ethic and a willingness to contribute to the team's goal-scoring efforts," Vialli said. "We're looking forward to seeing what he can do for us in the coming season."
With Monaco struggling to score goals, Mitrović's presence could provide some much-needed firepower to the squad.
However, the team still faces significant challenges in finding solutions to its defensive problems, which have been a major source of concern for many fans and analysts.
As Mitrović prepares to start his career at Monaco, he will need to prove himself to the team and earn a regular spot in the starting lineup if he wants to make an impact in the league.
Overall, the signing of Mitrović represents a positive development for Monaco and could potentially help them turn things around in their quest for a top-four finish in Ligue 1.
